Earlier this march the remains of Marcelino Devis a 47 year old Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was apparently a victim of a hit-n-run in Kuwait was sent home to Ilocos Sur last Tuesday.
His remains was transported through Philippine Airlines Flight RP C8398 which landed at the Laoag International Airport. The remains of his body was brought by his family to his hometown in Barangay Mangaynay in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur.
According to reports from Kuwaiti officials, an SUV driven by a Kuwaiti national allegedly hit Devis, the incident happened in Hawalli ( but some news said it is in Salmiya ) , Kuwait while he was walking on his way home last March 3, this was according to his wife Delia Devis.
The Devis family have already confirmed that the driver of the SUV had already surrendered to authorities.
Devis cause of death as stated in his death certificate presented that he sustained multiple bone fractures in his neck and skull.
Accodring to the OFW’s youngest son, Mark Devis “Parang hindi kapani-paniwala kasi nagkaroon ng multiple fracture sa neck and skull, kung simpleng sagi lang ‘yun,” (I don’t believe that it was a simple accident, because he sustained multiple fractures in his neck and skull.)
Allegedly the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait did not give any financial assistance to the OFW’s family, this allegations added to the disappointment of Devis family.
With the help of the Philippine government, the family pleaded to the Kuwaiti Police to further investigate on the OFW’s death.
For 16 years Devis have been working as an OFW in Kuwait, were his most recent job was at a landscaping company as supervisor.
