On top of the P3.2 million given by Taiwan’s government, the family of an OFW who died in an earthquake received an additional P600,000.00.
The additional monetary donation came from Taiwan Association Inc. and the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines. It was handed by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office representative Gary Lin to Jay-Ar Castro, the husband of Melody Albano, accompanied by his daughter Given Grace and mother Normoda Albano during a simple ceremony in Makati City.
According to Lin, the financial assistance coming from Taiwan symbolized the country’s compassion, care and love towards the Filipino migrant workers in Taiwan.
Up to date, there are about 150,000 OFWs in Taiwan whose majority are working under the manufacturing sector.
Albano was among the victims who died during the earthquake in Hualien county in Taiwan last February 2018.
