Overseas Filipino Workers endure different hardships in life as they try and adjust to the new culture and environment abroad. Among all the struggles that OFWs have to endure, it’s the homesickness that’s really hard to deal.
There are already a number of OFWs who gets defeated with it and end up taking their own lives. Family problems also contribute to the hardships in life.
Another OFW in Taiwan had to end her life allegedly because of family problems. The woman was identified as Cherry May Manluctao Donato. Her friends describe her as an independent and strong woman. But it seems like the problems beat her.
It is also found out that before she took her life, Donato was extremely drunk. Before she decided to take her life, she also sent a text message to her boyfriend confirming that she will end up her life.
Her boyfriend got alarmed and told her friends about the message of Donato. They quickly checked her on her room but it’s too late – she was already dead. She hanged herself.
However, according to Donato’s friend, Janet Hilomen, the family problem is not the reason why her friend took her life. She didn’t clearly identify the reason but she noted that Donato’s family is very supportive of her.
The real reason behind her death remains unknown.
Rest in peace, kabayan!
