Lawyer Raymond Fortun to sue Cebu Pacific for stranding family in Vietnam

Well-known lawyer Raymond Fortun threatened to sue budget airline Cebu Pacific after canceling his flight without any warning.

His Facebook post about the incident ended with the words: “See you in court. Send your best, it ain’t gonna matter.”

In his Facebook post, Fortun said he and his family planned a trip to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam during APEC week. He hoped that they would still be able to fly home on November 19, so he checked with Cebu Pacific to be sure. He received an e-mail on November 15 that he could check in online for his return flight, so he assumed the flight is still a go.

A list of flight cancellations from November 17 also showed that his flight was not cancelled.

When they arrived on the airport on November 19, however, Fortun found out that their flight was cancelled. He said the staff claimed they sent him an e-mail informing him of the cancellation, but he said he received nothing.

Fortun said he and his family are now incurring expenses following the cancellation. His son is also “despondent” at the possibility of his music teacher being “furious with him”, Fortun having convinced his son to join the trip in the first place.

As of this writing, Fortun’s post gained more than 26,000 likes and 7,000 shares on Facebook.

Fortun was struck with the lack of professionalism and compassion in the company. He also questioned the necessity of the cancellations when the company could have directed the passengers to Clark International Airport instead.

What’s more heartbreaking, he said, was that other passengers whose flights were cancelled could not afford the expenses. Cebu Pacific did not provide for temporary shelter and meals until they provide for a return flight.

Cebu Pacific tweeted an apology to all inconvenienced passengers in its Twitter account. It reminded passengers to check its list of cancelled flights before heading to the airport.
