A passenger inside the Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport was almost hit after a portion of the ceiling of Sweet Ideas Restaurant inside the terminal collapsed on Jan. 28, 2016.

David de Castro (MIAA) Manila International Airport Authority spokesperson said the wounded passenger, a 30-year-old American national bound for US, was given immediate medical attention and no other was seriously hurt from the incident.

“Initial investigation shows that the materials used for the construction of that particular ceiling of the restaurant were weak,” De Castro said.

MIAA stressed construction of structures inside commercial spaces of the NAIA terminal is the sole responsibility of concessionaires.

De Castro added MIAA will impose penalties on the concessionaire should it be proven that substandard materials were used for the restaurant’s construction.

The restaurant will remain closed until the end of the investigation.
