MANILA – More than 30 Filipinos were evacuated by local authorities of Norcia, Italy after the magnitude 6.5 earthquake last Sunday.

According to Hector Cruz from Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, it is expected that evacuees will arrive in Rome and will temporarily live at a religious guest house. No one was fatally injured in the said accident.

Norcia is a town in Italy which was terribly affected by the recent 6.5 magnitude earthquake, last Sunday at 7:40am.

The recent earthquake was said to be the strongest one in more than 30 years now. The center of the earthquake was in Umbria and Marche, both regions are near Norcia. It was felt from the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige until Puglia.

One of the destroyed infrastructure is the famous Basilica of Saint Benedict in Norcia, which was built in the 14th century. Roads were also destroyed making it hard for authorities to evacuate affected Filipinos.

The Philippine Embassy in Rome is reminding all Filipinos to stay alert at all times because of the possible aftershocks caused by the recent earthquake.  The Department of Foreign Affairs also sees to it that they can provide necessary help for the victims of the calamity in Italy.

Filipino communities are also looking for some help to provide relief supplies for the evacuees.
