A police raid caught three Filipino men who are illegally fishing in South Devon, England. They are expected to be deported and will face fine amounting to £60,000.

The three men got busted after the operation of NCA, Border Force, Devon, GLAA and Cornwall police took place. The operation was due to the nationwide effort to stop modern slavery.

Both NCA and GLAA coordinated with the police forces to finally remove such activities that are involving slavery-related criminality.

The three Filipino men also do not have visa documents.

“This co-ordinated week of activity aimed to disrupt and build intelligence on the criminal networks involved in labor exploitation, but also to raise awareness of the issues around modern slavery for workers,” says the NCA deputy director Roy McComb.

“As well as the enforcement action that has seen dozens of potential victims safeguarded, we have also aimed to speak to those at risk of falling into exploitation and help them understand the issues,” he added. “This approach is important, because this is a crime that affects the vulnerable, and often victims don’t recognize themselves as such until it is too late.”

According to the director of operations for the GLAA Ian Waterfield, the united efforts is to eradicate exploitation as well as slavery.

“The approach taken this week with the country’s law enforcement agencies working together to target labor exploitation, demonstrates the United determination we all have to eradicate slavery and exploitation from our communities,” says Waterfield.

“Though we have had a week of action to highlight the issue, the GLAA and others are involved in these type of activities every single day,” he added.

The identity of three men was yet to be released to the public.
