President Duterte Left Strong Words Against Illegal Recruiters Who Sells Filipino Workers as Slaves

The Philippine president is angered over illegal recruiters who tend to lure Filipino workers to Middle East countries just to work as slaves.

In a statement, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that he wants “to kill” those illegal recruiters who offer a job in the Middle East to Filipino workers only to end up in a difficult situation or worst, being a slave.

“I really want to kill [these illegal] recruiters who seize every problem to convince people to go to the Middle East. But when the recruit arrives in the Middle East, the problem develops or they are being sold to questionable Arab families,” says President Duterte during a speech.

He also condemned those illegal workers selling Filipina woman into a slave market in Africa.

“There are Filipina girls who went there who cannot be accounted for anymore…. They said if you fail to find them, they had been sold to the slave market in Africa. And I just cannot imagine for the life of me to think that a Filipina is being made a slave and being raped every day,” he added.

The comment of the president was made following the recent incident involving a Filipina domestic helper in Kuwait who was allegedly beaten until she passed away by her employer.

When the OFW was taken into the hospital by her male employer, she soon succumbed to her injuries and bruises which is a manifestation of bad treatment towards her.
