The Department of Labor and Employment is currently working on the deportation of a Filipina caregiver in Taiwan over allegations of cyber libel.

According to the statement released by the Department of Labor and Employment, a Filipina caregiver in Yunlin County is accused of ‘willful posting of nasty and malevolent materials against President Duterte on Facebook intended to cause hatred amidst the global health crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Labor Office already got in touch with the OFW’s employer as well as her broker over her deportation. They also talked with the accused OFW to “enlighten” her of the actions she did which has “amounted to a crime for which she might be prosecuted both in Taiwan and the Philippines.”

Upon the conversation, the woman was cooperative and promised to delete the malicious materials. The OFW also said that she will refrain from doing it again. She will then post a video of apology to President Duterte and the “people of the government”.

However, after the meeting, the Facebook page of POLO Taichung started to receive a couple of supports for the OFW. But as they took time to check the accounts, it was actually fake and unreliable. The OFW has been using it “and has a group organized to discredit and malign the President and destabilize the government.”

According to the Republic Act No. 10175, sharing and posting of malicious videos are punishable by law
