Wowie Grumal was excited when his OFW father sent a balikbayan box all the way from Saudi Arabia.
But when the balikbayan box arrived on Sunday, he was shocked to find the balikbayan box destroyed, its contents as if devastated from a storm. Canned goods and other food items were found opened and decayed.
Grumal’s father has been sending balikbayan boxes for eight years, but this is the first time this has happened. Almost half of the contents of the balikbayan box were said to have disappeared.
Kingspoint Express and Logistics, the logistics company that handled the delivery of Grumal’s balikbayan box showed that the balikbayan box arrived in their receiving area already wet. Furthermore, they blamed Grumal’s father for placing liquid items in the box with full knowledge that these items can ruin the contents in the box.
They have, however, contacted the forwarding service in order to help Grumal and his father.
Based on the records of the Bureau of Customs, Grumal’s balikbayan box arrived in the Port of Manila area on September 13. They insisted that they have stopped physical inspections of balikbayan boxes unless deemed to contain suspicious items.
