College Students With Displaced OFW Parents to Receive P30,000 Cash Grant From The Government

College students who are children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) will receive cash assistance worth P30,000, President Duterte recently announced.

If you are a displaced OFW due to COVID-19 and you have a child studying in college, then you can avail of the one-time cash grant for the education of your children.

To qualify, OFW children must be enrolled or intends to enroll in a college institution (state universities or private institutions) accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

“The project will be allotted with the amount of ₱1 billion which will benefit about 33,000 students from OFW families,” says President Duterte.

According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, there are about 174,000 OFWs who were repatriated back to the country since April this year. An average of 1,500 OFWs is reportedly returning home every day since the start of the pandemic.

Moreover, a huge decline of remittances was recorded from March to May of 2020 caused by the economic crisis brought by the pandemic.

Currently, the Philippines started to implement online classes for college student to avoid the further spread of the disease. As of September 3, there are already 65,240 active cases in the country after recording 1,987 new cases today.
