Court of Appeals orders for Willie Revillame’s arrest

The Court of Appeals (CA) has asserted that the decision of Quezon City’s Regional Trial Court (RTC) related to the criminal case filed against television show host Willie Revillame was found without flaw.

Because of this, the CA has ordered the immediate arrest of Revillame.

Writer Rey G. Panaligan wrote on Manila Bulletin on October 18 that Revillame’s case in Quezon City involves the six-year-old boy who he had asked to perform a “macho dance” in 2013.

This incident was when Revillame was hosting a noontime show in TV5, this particular episode causing controversy. He asked the child to do the performance repeatedly, even if the child had tears in his eyes. While dancing, Revillame was heard shouting “More beer, more beer!” in the background.

When the performance was over, Revillame gave the child a cash prize of P10,000.

Numerous concerned television watchers complained to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The government agency eventually filed the case against Revillame.

Two years after the incident, Judge Roberto Buenaventura of the Quezon City RTC stated he has found probably cause on Revillame’s case and has ordered the host’s arrest.

Revillame has filed a motion for reconsideration, which was denied. He will be elevating his motion to a higher court.

CA Associate Justice Ma. Luisa Quijano-Padilla said Buenaventura was able to criticize the factual circumstances of the case against Revillame. Therefore, the warrant of arrest was properly issued because the judge found enough probably cause on the criminal offense.

Padilla added that it is right that the arrest and arraignment should now ensue. She said the case may properly proceed to trial so that the merits of both parties’ evidence and allegations may be weighed.
