Duterte sends financial aid to OFWs stuck at Saudi Oger

The Philippine government has started helping Filipinos going without pay at Saudi Oger with SR40 million (PHP502 million) in immediate financial assistance.

President Rodrigo Duterte send a high-profile team that includes Atty. Guiling Mamondiong, new chief of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III; and John Bertiz, Acts-OFW party list congressman.

Bello said they are in Saudi to learn the real status of OFWs and encourages them to tell their problems.

Bello arrived with PhP 500 million in aid. Each OFW will get PhP20,000 plus PhP6,000 for their family back home.

Bello also said he would like to convey the sincere thanks of the president. Majority of Duterte’s votes during the elections came from overseas absentee votes.

The team also promised to help OFW’s children back home to continue their studies.

Mamondiong stressed TESDA’s role in enabling vocational and technical training to be conducted for the improvement of workers’ qualifications to raise their working status to a higher level. He observed that this is one of the reintegration programs being featured including livelihood and micro-business helpful to the returning expatriates.

In addition to repatriation procedures, OFWs will receive plane tickets and legal assistance to claim their unpaid salaries and other entitleme
