Several bruises in a child’s body seems like normal but this mother did not realize that the greatest nightmare is actually happening to her child.
A mother did not get the idea that her child is physically abused until someone told her that there’s a video which captured the abuse of her child. The video was allegedly taken by fellow OFW domestic helper not to mistreat the child. But all efforts were wasted.
In the video, a certain Christy Jean Calma Cornel, 33, allegedly slapped, pulled the hair, and hit a small child with umbrella. She also repeatedly pinched the cheeks of the child in the video.
According to the police investigation, Cornel started working in her employer last year and since then, the child developed bruises in different parts of the body mostly in the legs, neck and face. The mother only thought that the child got the bruises while playing.
After a year, the truth was revealed when a neighbour said that she saw a video of Cornel unhesitant to slap the child many times.
In the court trial, the video clip was played and Cornel said that she have realized that her deeds were really wrong and “very painful” especially since she is a mother herself.
In a mitigation letter, she said that she is a breadwinner, will not repeat the mistake again and hopes that the family can still forgive her.
The maid is set to be jailed for four years with fine amounting to $4,000.
