KUWAIT – M. Hanif Dhakiri, Indonesian Manpower Minister stated that the Indonesian government is against the sending of domestic workers in Kuwait. According to him, the government of Indonesia still refuses to entertain taking back the moratorium of sending domestic helpers into countries in the Middle East, which includes Kuwait. This was his message to the Kuwait’s Ambassador, Abdulwahhab Abdullah Al-Saqer.
The said statement was released in the meeting with the Kuwaiti Envoy after Kuwait specifically requested domestic helpers from the Indonesian Government.
Kuwaiti envoy said that they are respecting the decision of the Indonesian government but still appealed not to include Kuwait from the said moratorium against Middle East Countries. According to Abdulwahhab, the royal family as well as the large population of Kuwait gravely needs domestic helpers coming from Indonesia and they are hoping that the Indonesian Government can reconsider their decision.
Despite that, the Indonesia government stayed firm to their decision until Middle East countries can improve the treatment and protection of Indonesian workers and other foreign workers.
