NBI Arrests Illegal Recruiters Who Tried To Lure Filipinos For A Job In Japan

Seven alleged illegal recruiters got busted as they try to lure Filipinos for a job in Japan. Illegal recruiters tried to take advantage of the growing job opportunities in Japan. Luckily, NBI agents were keen enough to catch these opportunist.

The National Bureau of Investigation conducted an entrapment operation into an optical shop where illegal recruiters are actively running their business.

The NBI agents immediately went inside the optical shop as applicants pay the marked money to the alleged illegal recruiter. One illegal recruiter even tried to escape despite being caught in the act.

Marie Alvarez, one of the illegal recruiter, promised their applicants a food processing job in Japan, with a salary of Php 90,000.00/month, overtime pay, board and lodging. She later denied all allegations.

Ginalyn is an applicant who gave Php 40,000.00 to Alvarez just to process her application since 2015. Later, Alvarez asked another Php 10,000.00.

According to Munar, “My situation is really hard because I only borrowed money from my sister just to give to them. My sister told me that I need to have the guts to report these people to the police.”

Another victim named Romar experienced the same thing in the hands of these illegal recruiters. He is ready to work to Japan until he knew that the company of Alvarez is not accredited by POEA. He also wondered why they are operating inside an optical shop.

“Alvarez said that by December, I can fly to Japan to start work there so I resigned from my previous job. I already have lots of debts now”, Romar said.

15 victims went to NBI to complain. NBI reminds all aspiring applicants to always be very keen in identifying the real motive of the recruiter.

“It is very easy to verify the legitimacy of the recruiter in the POEA. The only problem is when an applicant’s instantly believe recruiters even without verifying them”, said Atty. Janet Francisco of the NBI Anti-Human Trafficking Division.

Meanwhile, all the seven illegal traffickers and the owner of the optical shop will be charged with multiple violations according to the law.
