In the Philippines, age is taken into consideration when an applicant is applying for a job. Sad though, those people who fall above the age limit is deprived of being able to work which leads to more and more cases of unemployment.
Recently, a good news has been reported by GMA 7 stating that Germany is opening job opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled overseas worker regardless of age.
Elsa Villa, the president of the Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. (PASEI) sees more opportunities for Filipino workers who are mid-age and older who had previously worked in the Middle East, believing they were capable of handling positions in the field of construction, masons, welders and electricians efficiently because they had acquired enough experience.
“Especially our workers coming from the Middle East na medyo may edad–edad na pero very experienced will have a chance because there’s no age discrimination here. They’re more on the skill,” Villa claimed.
Germany will be needing qualified applicants for positions such as: electricians, masons, welders, metal construction, mechatronics professionals, automation technology and construction electronics professionals, pipefitters, construction workers and plumbers. However, complete list thereof will be made available thru POEA.
According to the report, workers can earn as much as P100,000.00 a month with P 50,000.00 as starting monthly salary. They can also apply for Germany residency provided they worked with the same company for at least 2 years. However, it is a must that successful applicants be knowledgeable of the German language which employers are willing to shoulder the expenses during the training.
POEA then emphasizes that interested applicants should make sure they apply only at POEA or at any of the accredited recruitment agencies whose list is available on their website : www.poea.gov.ph.
