What are second-degree and third-degree burns?

In the second-degree burn, epidermis and dermis are mostly affected or the lower layers of the skin. It can cause redness, pain, blistering and swelling in the skin. A third-degree burn, on the other hand, penetrates the dermis and affects deeper tissues. It is also called as full thickness burns and cases charred, blackened or white skin that can be numb.

Though there are now different treatments for burns, the pain caused by burns is considered one of the most intense and prolonged kinds of pain. This pain is also difficult to control mainly because of its unique characteristics, various components as well as changing patterns.
