How Much Should You Pay To Work Abroad?

To everyone, working abroad means a ‘greener pasture’. However, it is not easy to work in a foreign land. And of course, it is not free.

Though there are laws protecting migrant workers and Overseas Filipino Act, there are still fees and documents required by employers/recruitment agencies that are solely shouldered by applicants.

For instance, if you want to work a construction job in Qatar, you first need to pay for at least P66,415 as per the latest fees posted by recruitment agencies.

Despite these towering fees, workers still end up paying more than they should pay.

However, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has set up a list of appropriate fees coming from different employment requirements. This will provide help for Filipinos wanting to apply for a job overseas.

Fees Paid By Worker

  • Placement Fee – One month basic salary
  • Passport – P950 (regular), P1,200 (express)
  • NBI Clearance – P115
  • NSO Issued Birth Certificate – P140
  • Office of Muslim Affairs Certification (for Muslim Applicants) – If Applicable
  • TESDA Certificate of Competency – For Professionals
  • Medical Examination – depending on the clinic
  • CHED/Dep-Ed Verified Transcript of records – if applicable
  • PRC professional license – if applicable
  • PhilHealth Insurance – P2,400/year
  • Social Security System membership contribution – depending on the monthly salary
  • Pag-IBIG membership contribution – P100/month

Fees Paid By Employer/Agency

  • POEA Processing Fee – P200 when hired through recruitment agency, $100 when hired directly by foreign employer
  • OWWA Membership Contribution – $25/contract, good for 2 years
  • Mandatory Insurance – $77 (1 year contract), $144 (2-year contract)
  • Visa Fees – depending on the work location
  • Roundtrip airfair – depending on the work location
  • Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar – P100

All costs are subject to change anytime.
