Filipino in Ireland Succumbs To COVID-19, Orphans Four Young Children

A Filipino in Ireland succumbs to COVID-19. What’s even worst is that he orphaned young children.

55-year-old Miguel Plangca was confined in the intensive care facility for 41 days. Unfortunately, after the long battle, the Ozamis City native passed away due to complications brought by COVID-19.

When Miguel relocated to Ireland, he brought his children with him; Mikee (21) being the eldest, next is Michael (19), followed by John and Chekie who’s ages are 14 and 12 respectively. These kids were totally orphaned as their mother passed away six years ago because of cancer.

The eldest among Miguel’s kids posted a heartbreaking post on social media.

You fought a good fight papa?❤️Thank you for everything? We will miss you?We love you!❤️??

“You fought a good fight papa. Thank you for everything. We will miss you. We love you,” Mikee said in the post.

Being the eldest in the family, Mikee is left to care for her younger brothers and sister.

“We don’t know what will happen. We would like to stay in Ireland because that’s where we have made a life, where our friends are and our [Filipino] community is, but we don’t know,” she added.

Even before her father passed away, Mikee chose not to go to college after completing her sixth year because she takes care of her brother, Michael, who got an intellectual disability. How that their father is gone, Michael is now the responsibility of Mikee.

“My dad made so many sacrifices for us. He was a good man and everything he did he did for us,” says Mikee referring to his father being able to work for night shifts just so he can look for Michael.

The Filipino Community in Ireland conveyed their condolences to the family and promised to help the children in any way they could. They are also raising money ( GoFundMe) to help the children of the deceased OFW.
