An Overseas Filipino Worker who was waiting for the result of his COVID-19 test which was done last week was left without a choice but to wait longer because the specimen which was taken from him went missing.

OFW Darwin Ramirez arrived in the Philippines last October 15, and he then underwent the collection of his swab samples. After six days, he tried to follow up for his results only to know that the sample collected from him went missing.

“Wala daw ang sample nila doon, baka daw nasa ibang laboratory hindi pa napadala,” says Ramirez. “Di nila sure kung nasaan o ‘di nila ma-locate kung saang laboratory dinala ang mag sample naming.”

Ramirez is just one of the many OFWs who were greatly affected when the Philippine Red Cross stopped its operations because of the debt of Philhealth on them.

Secretary Bello confirmed that there were 4,000 OFWs who came back to the Philippines but were left stranded in Manila because of the Philhealth and Philippine Red Cross issue. It is said that when Ramirez arrived in the Philippines, it was also the same day when the Red Cross stopped its operations when it comes to processing the COVID-19 test results of OFWs.

“Itong Red Cross, ‘wag kang mag-alala. Mabayaran ‘to. They’re just looking for a way to present the solution to the [Commission on Audit] pati sa budget,” says President Duterte regarding this matter.
