Filipinos seeking jobs in Canada are warned against a possible scam

Filipinos seeking jobs in Canada are warned against a possible scam targeting those in health-oriented professions.

The warning, which came from the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto, said the scam is offering non-existent jobs particularly as caregiver at Ian Anderson House, an in-resident cancer hospice in Oakville, Ontario.

“The Consulate General received a report that an invitation is being circulated through e-mail for a two-day seminar, currently scheduled for March 7 to 8, in the Philippines where invited participants are asked to pay a P3,800 seminar fee in exchange for guaranteed employment at the aforementioned facility,” the consulate said.

It added that the invitation comes from Primera Human Resources Services, a licensed agency that, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, does not have approved job orders for Canada.

A representative of Ian Anderson House also denied it is hiring employees at this time. It likewise denied it is connected with the seminar.

“The public is strongly urged to exercise caution when responding to the abovementioned or similar offers of employment, and to verify the same with the POEA to avoid being victimized by unscrupulous individuals,” the consulate said.
