Hong Kong – Filipina was sentenced 14 years and 8 months in jail after carrying drugs. But that’s actually not the catch, the woman was pregnant and even gave birth while waiting for sentencing.
Vergara Catherine Bustillo was caught carrying a total of 1.3 kilograms of cocaine with a total amount of HKD 1.77 million last Feb. 2.
According to Bustillo, a woman gave her a suitcase containing a small bag as she was about to board the plane. The woman said that she will just collect the suitcase in Hong Kong on her arrival the next day.
Justice Kevin Zervos said that the Filipina is such an intelligent woman and he can’t even understand why such thing happened to her. She would miss the chance to be with her son as she grows up because she was sentenced 14 years and 8 months in prison.
Bustillo came to Hong Kong just to buy baby clothes and pay a visit in a church. She works as a customer service representative in a software company in Metro Manila.
In Hong Kong, inmates are allowed to nurse their babies up to three years. However, Bustillo is planning to send her child back to the Philippines so her husband can take care of him.
