The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver hosted a financial literacy seminar to a number of Filipina caregivers.

Held in June 29 at the Multicultural Helping House Office in Vancouver BC, the attendees were told to include a fixed amount for savings in sending their monthly remittances to their families in the Philippines. Vice Consul Ma. Charmaine Guevara said that setting aside a certain amount for savings will ensure financial security.

Guevara said OFW remittances are very rarely expanded beyond the usual budget appropriations like food, education, medical expenses, and debt payments.

The seminar was aimed at increasing the awareness of OFWs about the availability and accessibility of financial education programs. It also aims to increase the OFW’s financial consciousness and to familiarize themselves on available financial tools that can help promote their financial well-being, especially when they return to the Philippines.

For this seminar, Guevara used Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ Module 1 of its Financial Learning Campaign for OFWs. She also provided the attendees an update on the various consular services and revised fees.
