Victoria, 43, lost a lot of weight when she came back to the Philippines. According to the OFW, her employer in Jordan beat her for almost a year causing her the drastic weight loss.

She was beaten using a steal, giving her swollen wounds that some even has pus. Her body looks like a map because of the countless wounds in her back and entire body. Even her ears are swollen and cannot hear normally. Victoria cannot also move her jaws properly.

“Una posampalsampalmuna, duroduro. Mgakalahatingtaonna, yanna, umpisana ng bakal, yung wire na pang antenna ihahampassalikodko. Tapos hanger nabakal, ihahampassauloko, salikodko. Minsansadumugo;” says Victoria.

Her employer uses steal to beat her in the face, back, and legs.

“Pag may lumalabasnadugo at lamanlaman, tumitigalsyakapagnakakaramdamnasyanasakitnasakitnaakosobra. Hanggangsabinuhusanako ng tubignamainit,” Victoria added.

Victoria tried to ask for help but her employer took her mobile phone. She also pleads her employer to allow her to return to the Philippines but was blackmailed, prompting her to remain silent.

Until one day, the physical abuse she received reached its highest level.

“As in sobra nay unggulpinyasa akin, talagangpinagsamasamananiyasa akin yungsamukhako, hampassaking ng bakal. Sigurohindinakinaya ng katawankoyung energy ng pananakit, hinimatayako sir. Ngayon, pagkahimatayko, iniwananpoakosakwartona para akongpatay. Butinalangpoyungamokonglalaki, maagangdumating. Yun poyung ng survive ng buhayko,” Victoria confessed.

After a few days, her male employer got her a plane ticket to the Philippines. Victoria’s mother couldn’t comprehend the things that happened to her daughter.

“Sabiko, anakmabuti at nakauwika pa kahitganyannaangkatawanmo,” says Victoria’s mother.

Victoria already filed a complaint against her employer at OWWA.

OWWA also promised to help Victoria get the justice that she deserves.

“Kailangannya ng immediate medical attention and we will shoulder the medical costs,” says Hans Leo Cacdac from OWWa.

Her employment agency shut down and could not be reached.

It was in 1990 when the government issued a deployment ban for domestic helpers and unskilled workers in Jordan. This is due to the countless reports of abuse among OFWs in the country.

But after 15 years, POEA lifted the deployment ban. However, in 2006 and 2008, the deployment ban took effect again after several reports of abuse towards domestic helpers.

In 2012, POEA removed again the suspension and started sending newly hired household workers in Jordan.
