OFWs in UAE Who Availed The Amnesty Program Queues At The Dubai International Airport

Overseas Filipino Workers who availed the amnesty program of United Arab Emirates are falling in line at the Dubai International Airport Terminal 1 to their respective provinces and cities in the Philippines.

These OFWs are just part of the 116 OFWs who were staying in UAE illegally but were fortunately allowed to leave the country without paying hefty fines.

Financial assistance amounting to $100 were given by the Philippine government to these OFWs, by which they will receive as they arrive in the Philippines on Sunday, August 26.

The amnesty program granted by UAE run for six months and many OFWs and other nationalities availed of this program to return to their respective countries and avoid getting banned.

One Bangladeshi man, 22, who lived in UAE without legal documents since birth, gets his Dh1.3 million overstay fees waived.

As a result of this initiative, the man who was born in Umm Al Quwain became a legal resident.

“He has his birth certificate and passport, but never had a residency visa issued,” Col Khalid Yousef bin Hudibah, executive director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) said.

The Philippine Consulate expected a total of 5,000 Filipinos who will avail of this program.
