A maltreated Overseas Filipino Worker in Kuwait was rescued by the Philippine Embassy, according to a recent report.

The maltreated Filipina is currently staying at the Philippine Embassy and is “safe and sound” as of the moment. The Filipina worker will be repatriated back to the Philippines once the quarantine restrictions will get lifted, says Brigido Dulay, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Civilian Security, and Consular Concerns.

The report was initially from social media. Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. instructed one of his officials to respond to the said report.

They broke two billiard sticks on her back and rubbed salt on it. I had to take her home. I thank the Aboitiz family for helping. They will care for her. https://t.co/Bv1Ifi2F2u

According to the Twitter post of Locsin, the Filipina was badly maltreated by her employers physically and was only allowed to eat once a day. Her mobile phone and passport were also taken from her.

“They broke two billiard sticks on her back and rubbed salt on it. I had to take her home,” says the foreign chief.

This is not the first time that a Filipina was badly treated in Kuwait. In fact, it is already the second time that the Philippines imposed a total deployment ban of Filipino workers in Kuwait following the passing of a Filipina believed to be maltreated by her employers.

OWWA and DOLE are yet to comment on the issue.
