One of the greatest dreams of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) is to build a house that they can call their own. Although not all OFWs get so lucky to achieve their dream house, there are some who couldn’t contain their happiness upon seeing the fruit of their blood and sweat while working in a foreign land.
An OFW from Saudi Arabia was emotional upon her return to her hometown in Isabela. Because, their previous house built of wood is now a concrete, two storey house.
“Yung bahay kasi namin noon, gawa lang sa kahoy. Tapos ‘yung yero, patong-patong lang kasi nasira na ng bagyo,” says Ronalyn.
“Pag umuulan, tulo talaga yung inaabot. Basa kami. ‘Pag may dumadating na bagyo, doon sila sa evacuation pumupunta kasi hindi sila safe.”
But the journey of Ronalyn in Saudi Arabia isn’t always smooth. According to her, she encountered an employer who abused her. It was the hardest point of her employment. But Ronalyn didn’t give up her dream of building her own home.
“At habang naroon ako, nakita ko rin na malalaki ang bahay nila. Kaya sabi ko sa sarili ko na balang araw, magkakaroon din ako ng ganoon!” says Ronalyn.
According to Ronalyn, every time she receives her salary, her family in the Philippines gradually buys materials for their house.
“Tuwing sumasahod kami, unti-unti kaming bumibili ng gamit ng bahay. Nag-iipon kami ng bakal at hollow blocks. Kahit sobrang hirap, hindi kami sumuko!”
When Ronalyn, returned home, she didn’t just felt extremely happy for seeing her family but also the house she had ever dreamed of.
The story of Ronalyn was featured at the “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” on GMA
