President Marcos Aims To Improve OFW Services Through A Database Management
Newly appointed Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. aims to identify the number of Overseas Filipino Workers from different countries and those who want to return home through database management so he will know the services appropriate for them, says the Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople.
According to Ople, Marcos wants to develop various programs for OFWs returning back to the Philippines. They can either find work, retool, reskill, or become an investor. They will be linked to the programs of the government suited for them.
Moreover, Ople was also instructed by President Marcos to check the welfare of OFW families.
It can be recalled that former president Rodrigo Duterte established the DMW or the Republic Act 11641.
Under the said law, DMW will become the primary agency tasked with protecting the rights of OFWs and promoting their welfare. It will also absorb all the mandates and functions of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
