In the Philippines, the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are considered heroes. They are brave enough to venture out of the country, adapt to new situations and languages, in order to provide for their loved ones.
And because of this, it is assumed that OFWs are given the utmost attention, especially in government benefits.
Unfortunately, that has never been the case, as seen in the story below.
The story of Marilyn Delos Santos, an OFW for 25 years, has been posted by a certain Jane Santos Robles

She is described that she has worked hard to give good education to her children and her nieces and nephews.
Delos Santos was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and was sent back home from the country where she is working.
She was a member of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). Ideally, her contributions as a worker could help pay for the hospital bills.
Unfortunately, Delos Santos was not able to avail of her PhilHealth benefits because of her condition.
She was also supposed to receive medical assessment and insurance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), but again, she wasn’t able to receive these benefits for the same reason.
In the end, Delos Santos passed away.
