Nurses and nursing assistants are complaining against a home care company in Kuwait. They came to seek help in the Philippines Overseas Labor Office in Kuwait.
According to them, the health care company refused to follow the contract that the OFWs signed in the Philippines. Most of them are registered nurses but became care givers when they arrived in Kuwait.
According to Jona Lee Basbano, one of the complainant, they were promise a salary amounting to KD250 per month yet she only received KD140/month. Instead of 8 hours of work every day, she is working 12 hours without additional overtime fee and no day-off.
The complainants also paid P55,000 placement fee to three manpower recruitment agencies in the Philippines. It came down to 45,000 after they complained for excessive payment.
A certain Kyla, another complainant, went to Kuwait and was promised for a job as a nurse but she was informed that she’ll be working as a care giver instead. In the contract she signed in the Philippines, she was offered KD150 but when she went to Kuwait, the offer went down to KD130.
The complainants left the company accommodation for a week now.
The POLO Kuwait immediately summoned the said home care company for thorough questioning. According to the representative of the POLO Kuwait, the issue regarding the salary will be resolved soon. On the other hand, the excessive amount of placement fee will be investigated by the POEA.
The complainants are expecting that the company will give them what’s been agreed in the contract they signed in the Philippines.
