Sister Of Filipina Who Was Enslaved By American Employer For 65 Years Finally Found

Authorities finally found the eldest sister of Nanay Fedelina Lagusan, the 83-year-old Filipina who was enslaved by her American employers for almost four decades.

According to Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, the Philippine government will help the sister of Fedelina get a passport and visa so she can go to America.

“A niece actually came forward and they were able to cross-check it and I was informed that NanayFedelina has a sister, an older sister, who’s still alive and she lives in Leyte,” says Romualdez.

It was also reported that the two already met through Skype.

“So they were asking if we could help in getting a visa for the sister because it’s easier for her to come and visit rather than Fedelina go back this time since she is still waiting for the visa, the T visa, the trafficking visa,” Romualdez explains.

“So we’re going to try our best to expedite, to help her get her passport in the first place and then assist her in getting her a US visa to visit her sister,” he added.

Nanay Fedelina is from Leyte who went to Manila to work as a household helper at the age of 16. Later on, she was taken to America in 1980 when she was enslaved for almost 65 years without a salary and a day of rest.

She was finally rescued by authorities when her employer was hospitalized and Nanay Fedelina collapsed of starvation.

A case was filed against the employers of Nanay Fedelina and the Filipina refused to send them to prison. After the case, Nanay Fedelina was finally free from slavery and a Filipino couple took her to their home for the elderly center.
