The president of a government organization in the Philippines asked for an evacuation plan for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) incase turmoil escalates in Iran.
The passing of Iranian Major-General of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) QassemSoleimani over a US drone attack caused outrage among his countrymen who promised to take revenge sooner or later.
Because of the escalating tension, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUPC) President Raymond Mendoza asked Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to create an evacuation plan for Filipino migrant workers.

In a statement issued by Mendoza, he calls for President Duterte to convene a ‘multi-government agency panel to supervise an early escape plan which would ensure relocation or repatriation of OFWs before they get caught up in the escalating armed conflict in the region’.
Meanwhile, in a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines, they advise the Filipinos in Iraq to always be ready in case of a mandatory evacuation.
“The Filipinos in Iraq are strongly advised to coordinate closely with the Philippines Embassy and their respective employers in case of a mandatory evacuation.”
