Latest Human Trafficking Modus: Surrogate mothers to foreign fathers.
Airport authorities was able to intercept four Filipina mothers trying to become surrogate mothers to foreign nationals. This new modus operandi was uncovered recently.
Filipino women serves as a prey to these human traffickers. They are tasked to get impregnated by strangers who will pay them huge amount of money, said Jaime Morente, Immigration Commissioner. The recruiter of the four supposed-surrogate is also a Filipina.
Travel Control and Enforcement Unit of the Bureau of Immigration disembarked the five Filipina who was already on board at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 by a Thai Airways flight.
During interrogation, the four women confessed about their real motive upon going abroad. They were supposed to work as surrogate mothers in exchange for money. According to them, they will go to Bangkok and will meet a Cambodian which will lead them to Phnom Penh where they will meet the foreigner fathers. German, Chinese, Nigeran and Australian will become the father of their children.
In addition to that, there are another batch of surrogate mothers scheduled to fly to another country but the exact date was unknown. Furthermore, Morente released an order to properly interrogate Filipina women departing to countries like Cambodia and Thailand.
Each of them were promised a payment of $8,700 (Dh31,955) but will be paid by instalment. They can get their first payment of $200 after getting the first injection of the father’s sperm into the woman’s uterus. Another $500 will be given once the child’s heartbeat is confirmed. The rest of the payment will be given on a monthly basis, all throughout the pregnancy. The baby will be sent to the paternal parent’s country once delivered.
Charges are still being filed against the Filipina recruiter.
