The theft suspect pleaded guilty of theft before the Eastern Magistracy last Apr. 12.

The Filipina was sentenced by Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai to four weeks in prison that can lengthen to 18 months.

It is said that Viterbo do not need to be imprisoned once she refuse to commit another offense within the time period.

The Incident

Last December 26, 2016, one of the staff of Aeon tore noticed a missing limited edition Hello Kitty doll.

The staff checked the CCTV and found that a female customer took it around 8:28 in the evening.

On January 15, 2017, an inspection was conducted to check for some appliances but they were shocked to know that a hair straightener and hair dryer gone missing.

When they check the CCTV footage, they saw the same woman who stole the Hello Kitty doll.

The thief was then reported to the police by the two staffs.

Through the CCTV footage, the identity of the woman was traced and the police went to the suspect’s flat. As expected, the missing items were all found in the OFW’s possession. All of it remained unused.

During the interrogation, the woman confessed into stealing those missing things because she wants to give it to her teenage daughter.

The OFW is the breadwinner of her family since 2009, when she separated with her husband according to Hong Kong News

“As soon as the offense was made known to her employer, the defendant’s employment contract was terminated,” according to the lawyer.

“She now realizes that it was a stupid thing to do, and because of what she had done, the consequences of her actions were severe,” said her lawyer. “She is very remorseful.”

Aside from jail time, the woman is also set to pay $1,000.

The suspect already appeared before the court last Mar 16 but it was later adjourned to allow the defendant to think of her plea and to obtain more evidence.

Fortunately, the adjournment was granted by Judge Chainrai and obliged Viterbo to pat $1,000 as bail.

However, she was obliged to stay in Hong Kong because of her ongoing case.
