[OFW STORY] Life of An OFW by Rodelia P. Villar

We are here for our family…for the future of our children…for our parents.

Working abroad is not easy but we try to do our best for our beloved families. In everything God has a better plan for us…trials, success and challenges in life depends on our FAITH. We work in different countries with families, their beliefs and culture, but we need to be strong to handle anything that we encounter.

With this new generation and new technology like Facebook we read about updates and some unpleasant incidents and cases of OFW especially in the Middle East. Prayers…are sometimes the only way we can help them. It was very sad to read about some cases such as rape, torture, no food, overworked and many other worse encounters. Some Workers have been trying to even leave the Employers and escape for their safety. We are lucky here in Hong Kong that we are in a good working environment. We too encounter employer/employee problems, but they can be handled and resolved most of the time. All Filipinos keep helping each other while they are away from our country and they try to be good Samaritans.

Jesus will never leave us. We keep Praying for His presence within us, guidance for us in our daily work and help to overcome our hardships. He is there to take care of our families back home.

Most of us prefer to stay outside of our own country even though things can get extremely difficult – to sacrifice for our family…to give financial support to our loved ones…etc. While we live and work in other countries we always try to be strong!

We are proud of all OFW…and I am proud to be one of them.
